A short drive to Newby Bridge for today's walk.
Climbing steeply from the railway line we discovered the tower, a lovely secluded memorial to polish airmen, before a very pleasant meander through woodland to pick up the lake Windermere shoreline. At boathouse Wood we headed West (and up!) through lovely woodland, enentually reaching Thwaite Head and Thwaite Moss. Onward to Rusland, Rusland Cross, Ellerside and Town End before finally dropping down to Newby Bridge.
A long, strenuous walk, in blistering heat, but again we were in the shade of woodland for a large part of the walk.
