Day 3 - Cardunneth Fell from Castle Carrock

8.7 miles
Today we had a short drive to Castle Carrock to start our walk.
We climbed steadily from the village to Castle Carrock Fell with fantastic views in all directions. The path soon petered out and we were reduced to wading through heather moorland up to a radio mast at Hespeck Raise where we picked up a track along the ridge to a trig point near Cardunneth Pike.
After lunch we headed down towards Geltsdale, but the promised stile half-way down appeared to have been replaced by two fences - on of which was topped with barbed wire.
Rather than risking a serious incident we retraced our steps - initially a steep climb through the heather, but ten picking up the ridge-top track.
On our return to Castle Carrock we added a loop around the Reservoir and Water Works.
